Okay, so I know we’ve always been taught to stay away from saturated fats as they are bad for us, clogging up our arteries etc…Well that’s a myth!

Saturated fats are harmless to the body, especially the saturated fats in coconut oil.

I know, it sounds crazy that saturated fats help us lose weight but its true. Coconut oil is an immediate source of energy when eaten that isn’t stored as fat but instead actually helps us burn more fat. It’s the medium chain triglyceride in coconut oil that have been shown to increase 24 hour energy expenditure by 5% which could lead to a serious loss of body weight and help us lose fat especially from the dangerous areas such as the abdominal area surrounding the organs.

Coconut oil has so many health benefits such as boosting brain function, improving sleep, promoting healthy bones, teeth and hair and if you are lactose intolerant like myself, coconut oil is a great replacement for dairy. Populations that eat a lot of coconut oil are among the most healthiest in the world.

Ever since finding out the benefits of coconut oil I add it to almost anything I can in my diet. Try it in your morning tea or coffee, fry with it, bake with it, spread it on bread or add it to your smoothie 🙂
