Sports Therapy is a healthcare professional service available to all ages and ranges of physical ability. It focuses on injury prevention, and injury rehabilitation back to peak levels of functional, occupational or sports specific fitness. Sports Therapy applies the science of physiological and pathological processes in sport and exercise to plan and implement a suitable treatment schedule for each individual.

Sports Therapists are practitioners who:

  • Examine and assess musculoskeletal injuries, and refer on for specialist advice if necessary
  • Provide sports massage pre and post activity
  • Implement suitable rehabilitation programmes
  • Deliver appropriate manual mobilisation therapy
  • Apply electrotherapy modalities where required
  • Provide first aid and deal with injuries in a recreational or competitive environment
  • Offer injury management and lifestyle advice

Members of the Society of Sports Therapists have undertaken an accredited study programme and achieved standards of knowledge and competencies that are recognised and recommended by the lead professional body in Sports Therapy. These members have been deemed as meeting the required levels of competencies and knowledge necessary to be covered by Professional Indemnity Insurance – The Society of Sports Therapists. Sports Therapy Injury Management session 1 hour:

‘STIM’ is the primary session for any ache, pain or specific injury. At the initial consultation, Judith will take basic personal details, explain the Sports Therapy process and obtain a detailed history of the problem. Then she will carry out a full examination and assessment, where you will move the area of pain and surrounds into different positions. This will help Judith understand the problem, and its source better so that she can develop an effective treatment plan. It will all be explained in detail at the consultation. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions.

Judith’s priority is optimum care and management of each person’s ache, pain or injury. After the initial consultation, each session will last about an hour and the area will be re-assessed to note progression. Each hour session will involve discussion of the injury and hands on assessment and treatment. Please wear or bring a pair of shorts and for ladies, please wear a comfortable bra or sports bra.

Sports Massage:

Massage has been described as, ‘a mechanical manipulation of body tissues with rhythmical pressure and stroking for the purpose of promoting health and well-being’. Techniques are effleurage (stroking), petrissage (cleansing) and tapotement (stimulating) depending on the physiological effect required. Sports Massage can be used to prepare or recover from exercise, as treatment for an injury or simply for maintenance of the body from training or occupational stresses and strains.
